Kings of Leon Rock EPIX

NEW YORK—(BUSINESS WIRE)—EPIX, the premium channel created by Paramount Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. and Lionsgate is filling out its original programming with a live concert special by rockers Kings of Leon. Fresh off headlining stints at Lollapalooza and the Austin City Limits Festival, as well as a hugely successful North American arena tour, the Nashville quartet brings its live show in support of the platinum plus-selling album, Only By The Night, to EPIX subscribers in December.

Since its release, the band’s fourth album has taken Kings of Leon to massive heights in America. “Kings of Leon has a sound that reflects their many influences as well as many different genres, and it’s made them one of the biggest ground breaking bands in the world. This special is perfect for EPIX viewers and I am thrilled to be delivering it to them,” said EPIX President Mark Greenberg.

Appearances on the covers of Rolling Stone and SPIN, and performances on Saturday Night Live, The Today Show’s summer concert series on Rockefeller Plaza, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien have all helped give the band the biggest selling record of their career as well as put them in front of more fans than ever before.

The special was filmed at London’s The O2 arena, where three nights of shows sold out in mere minutes. The band’s enthusiasm was contagious as they rocked adoring European fans with the Grammy Award-winning “Sex on Fire,” the #1 hit “Use Somebody” and many other fan favorites from the band’s young but storied career.

Kings of Leon’s live performance at The O2 Arena will air December 19, 2009 at 9:30 PM Eastern on EPIX and is part of an expanding slate of monthly exclusive original events featuring comedy and music superstars including Madonna, Lewis Black and Eddie Izzard.

EPIX Unites All-Star Cast for Sam Kinison Tribute

Sam Kinison: Back From Hell Ignites EPIX

NEW YORK—(Business Wire)—An all-star cast is gathering on the new premium channel EPIX to celebrate the hard-living and outspoken late comedian, Sam Kinison. This dynamic special event weaves interviews and performances by stars Chris Rock, Kathy Griffin, Jay Leno, George Lopez, Ice-T and Denis Leary, and many others, with a filmed tribute at the comedian`s old stomping ground, The Comedy Store.

Frequent appearances on “Saturday Night Live” and “Late Show with David Letterman,” drove Kinison to heights of success usually reserved for rock bands. His brash performances and over-the-top style attracted huge audiences and sold-out massive arenas. A cult following and rave reviews made him one of the most promising comedians of his generation until his life was cut short by a drunk driver in 1992.

“I don’t think there’s a bit that you could find of Sam’s that doesn’t reflect the absolute truth of the situation,” says comedian Denis Leary.

“We`re excited to bring together some of today`s most talented artists to pay homage to Kinison. He was a groundbreaker whose performances inspired so many,” said Mark Greenberg, EPIX President.

Sam Kinison: Back From Hell will air on EPIX in February 2010. It is the third comedy event announced by EPIX, joining Eddie Izzard Live from Wembley which will run during EPIX`s October launch weekend and Lewis Black: Stark Raving Black which will air in December 2009.

“Iron Man” and “Eddie Izzard: Live from Wembley” Underscore EPIX Viewer Promise: Movies, Music and Comedy

EPIX Launch Weekend Movies Eclipse $2.5 Billion in Worldwide Box Office

NEW YORK—(Business Wire)—EPIX unveiled today its October 30th launch weekend programming lineup featuring a powerhouse slate of movies with a worldwide box office value of more than $2.5 billion. EPIX`s opening weekend will debut with the worldwide television and online premieres of an exclusive two-hour special concert event, Madonna “Sticky & Sweet: Live from Buenos Aires,” Marvel`s blockbuster film “Iron Man,” and the exclusive comedy special “Eddie Izzard: Live From Wembley.”

The “Sticky & Sweet” concert is the single most successful solo-artist tour of all time; Madonna entertained more than 3.5 millionconcert-goers in 32 countries generating nearly $500 million in total gate. EPIX captured her dazzling two-hour performance, live in Argentina at Buenos Aires` River Plate Stadium with special surprise guests Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, and Britney Spears seamlessly performing with Madonna via large screen. This will mark the first opportunity for audiences to see the sold out event following the live concert. The Sticky & Sweet Tour supported Madonna`s Grammy-nominated “Hard Candy,” which debuted at number one on the charts in over 37 countries.

“Performances from artists like Madonna represent the kind of marquee talent who will perform on EPIX as part of our slate of monthly music and comedy events,” said EPIX President Mark Greenberg.

Kicking off opening night with Marvel`s blockbuster movie “Iron Man,” EPIX will debut a powerhouse line-up of movies over the course of the weekend: more than fifteen world television premieres representing a combined worldwide box office value of more than $2.5 billion include Oscar-winner “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” Tyler Perry`s hit “Madea Goes to Jail,” family favorite “Pink Panther 2,” Lucasfilm`s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” “Cloverfield” and “The Duchess” among many others.

Appearing in Oceans 12 and producing and starring in FX`s “The Riches,” Izzard is known for his intelligent improvisational style, capable of weaving together such disparate topics as the Greek gods and Medusa`s hairstylist, transvestites and superheroes, along with musings on the plight of rabbit-chasing greyhounds.

“There is no one like Eddie Izzard. He breaks the mold. He is smart, engaging and hilarious,” said Greenberg.

As for his involvement with the multiplatform channel, Izzard said, “I have always sought out new and innovative means for sharing my work with my audience;I am thrilled to be a part of the very early days of EPIX and their exciting new network.”
